About Us

We are an association of Southern Baptist churches made up of believers committed to worshipping and serving Jesus Christ. As Southern Baptist Associations of churches we join with like minded Christians in spreading the gospel around the world.

Our Mission:  The Morganton and Mountaintown Baptist Associations are seeking to equip existing churches to fulfill the Great Commission working cooperatively in planting new churches and ministries by reaching, teaching, and maturing people for Kingdom growth.

Christ reached out to people of all ages and backgrounds and in the churches of the Morganton Baptist Association and the Mountaintown Baptist Association we desire to do the same. That's why you'll discover here ministries geared to various life stages and needs. That's why we have a place for everyone to study the Scriptures, fellowship together, and minister to others through numerous service opportunities.

As you look through our pages you will find mission opportunities that reach out locally and globally. We are blessed to have free medical clinics, free food distributions, free dental clinics and a free counseling ministry. We also support two pregnancy centers providing a place for counseling and resources for expecting moms. Globally, Jamaica mission trips are made in January and July each year.

We want you to be a part of the blessings of God in the life of one of our churches. We'll bring you updates on just what's happening in the  Morganton and Mountaintown Baptist Associations and share the stories of how Christ is making a difference in people's lives.

Meet our Associational Missionary

Rev. Stacy Dyer is the new Associational Missionary for Morganton and Mountaintown Baptist Associations. He has a heart for missions and discipleship and finds joy in encouraging others. He is husband of 30 years to Diane Foster Dyer, and they have a daughter, Lindsey Dyer Runkle, and son-in-law, Derrick Runkle. He most recently served as interim pastor for Spring Place Baptist Church in Chatsworth, Georgia and has also served as interim at Mount Yonah Baptist in Cleveland, Georgia. Rev. Dyer served as pastor of Shoal Creek Baptist in Cleveland, Georgia from May 2016-November 2019. Before that, he was Georgia Baptist State Missionary and consultant for church revitalization and evangelism from March 15, 2013-May 2016. Rev. Dyer also pastored Harmony Grove Baptist is Blairsville, Georgia from 1997-2013. Several of our associations' pastors knew and were encouraged by Stacy before his employment here, through our pastor roundtable meetings at the association office.

 Meet our Associate Missionary

Rev. Claude Mathis has served the Morganton and Mountaintown Baptist Associations as Association Missionary since January 1, 2006.  He came to this place of service following a 24 year pastorate at Lebanon Baptist Church in Epworth, GA.  Claude has been involved in the life of the Morganton Baptist Association for more than 40 years and enjoys working in both associations as AM.   He accepted the call to the ministry of the Gospel in 1981.  He has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Shorter College and an Associate Degree in Pastoral Ministries from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Claude enjoys visiting with the pastors and churches in the associations. He loves the opportunity to preach in each of the 35 churches. The churches working together to accomplish greater ministries shows an amazing presence of God's love and unity.

Claude is married to the former Kathi Mattox.  They have been married for over forty nine years.  Kathi recently retired from the emergency room of the Copper Basin Medical Center, Copperhill, TN where she had served as a registered nurse for more than twenty nine years.  Claude and Kathi have four children and eleven grandchildren.

Claude has announced his retirement from the missionary position to be effective at the end of 2020. He hopes to continue to serve the association working with the new Director of Missions and possibly pastor a bi-vocational church.

Our Mission and Ministry Resource Center

The Mission and Ministry Resource Center is located just off Highway 515 in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The Center provides office space for the missionary, associate missionary and for the Ministry Assistant, Mrs. Angie Whitener, and a workroom that also serves as an office for our counselor Dr. DeAnna Brown. One of the rooms has been converted into a dental clinic with all the necessary equipment to provide dental care. There is a library of resource materials, and two classrooms for offering training in all areas of ministry and technology. Many people visit the Mission Center each week.  The center is used for two counseling ministries, free food distribution, free medical clinic, and free dental clinics.  It is home to the SAM's committee (senoir adult ministry), a monthly breakfast for pastors, and a host of other meetings which occur occasionally.
